Dick Hoffman, 1928-2007

Dick Hoffman

Word has reached us of the passing of retired animator Dick Hoffman on October 30 after a long illness. Dick was seventy-nine and had been living at the Motion Picture Country Home in Woodland Hills.

Dick started at Disney as an inbetweener in June of 1953, a year before the portrait of him at right by John Sparey (part of John’s panorama of the Disney bullpen). By 1966 he was working for Pantomime and Format, left the business for a few years, and ended up at Filmation starting in 1971. He got kicked up to animator in 1984, and stayed until his retirement after the studio shut its doors in 1989.
