Doug Marlette, R.I.P.

Prize-winning cartoonist Doug Marlette is dead after a car accident in Mississippi...

"Doug was one of the very few talented cartoonists working today. He had a very different approach — all the good ones do," said Paul Conrad, a retired three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist for The L.A. Times.

"He had a marvelous way of needling people, which was all too rare," Conrad said.

...Marlette's editorial cartoons and the "Kudzu" comic strip he started more than 25 years ago are widely distributed in the U.S. and abroad, according to Tribune Media Services, which syndicates his work.

He will truly be missed. Not only for his incredible wit and skill with a pen, but for his integrity and commitment to social satire and commentary.
My favorite work of his is actually not a cartoon, but a commentary he wrote about the insanity from muslims following the Danish 'Mohammed' cartoon scandal. it can be found here:

Marlette has always been one of my favorite editorial cartoonists. His book "In Your Face" is a terrific read, and goes into detail about his work process - it's a treasured volume in my library. A rare talent.
